class=\"content-wrapper cloneable-container\"><div class=\"cloneable\"><div class=\"editable-container\"><div class=\"editable html gallery-description edited\" data-placeholder=\"md5:64a0eeb41165f47b5f32689e5ed21a06\"><p>The robust approach to assessment, reporting and monitoring is encompassed in The Ightham Primary School Development Planning Cycle. The Assessment Policy provides the rationale and brings clarity to the purpose and importance of assessment as the driver of pupil progress and the measure of effective teaching and learning;<\/p><p><strong>\u2018Assessment is the means by which the progress, skills and knowledge of pupils is monitored and tracked.\u2019<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The policy further defines the importance of assessment:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>To define each learner\u2019s ability: what the child knows understands and can apply<\/li><li>To gain as full an understanding as possible of each learner\u2019s skills level<\/li><li>To gain a full understanding of the progress made by each learner<\/li><li>To gain an awareness of the steps needed to continue progress of both skills and knowledge and to help these steps occur<\/li><li>To enable teaching staff to plan and deliver learning opportunities which will ensure progression for learners<\/li><li>To gain an understanding of the efficacy of teaching strategies<\/li><li>To ensure continuity and progression throughout the school<\/li><li>To reveal children\u2019s strengths and weaknesses<\/li><li>To enable teachers to plan and deliver learning that is appropriately challenging to pupil\u2019s attainment<\/li><li>To communicate accurate information about the learner that is useful to teachers, pupils, parents, and other educational agencies<\/li><li>To ensure early identification of children with SEN and those who are more able<\/li><\/ul><div>\u00a0<\/div><p>The staff at Ightham Primary School are developing a wider range of strategies for assessing children\u2019s work, through; continued professional development, peer support and observations, coaching, constructive feedback from lesson observations and work scrutiny to transform the policy into practice.<\/p><p>These strategies include:<\/p><ul><li>Observation \u2013 watching the children on task<\/li><li>Working with guided groups<\/li><li>Listening to, questioning\/discussions with the children<\/li><li>Photographing<\/li><li>Examining children\u2019s written\/recorded learning<\/li><li>Marking children\u2019s learning<\/li><li>Target setting and attainment<\/li><li>Assessment notes for future planning<\/li><li>Assessment for learning marking \u2013 next steps<\/li><li>Traffic light cards \/ discs \/ spots\u2013 assessment for understanding<\/li><li>Formal testing to assess children\u2019s skills and knowledge against standardised levels<\/li><li>Work scrutiny<\/li><\/ul><div>\u00a0<\/div><p>Summative assessment data is systematically recorded and tracked electronically through the use of Insight, quality assured through the systems described above, with: half termly tests in the core subjects, mock SATs, Pupil Progress meetings and moderation meetings.<\/p><p>The assessment\u00a0leader creates and distributes a page for each class with the \u2018on entry\u2019 baseline data and class lists included. It is the responsibility of the class Teacher to ensure that this page remains up to date and that data is entered efficiently.<\/p><p>We expect every child to make at least\u00a0six steps progress during each academic year; one step every half term.<\/p><p>The data from the half termly tests\u00a0and\u00a0on going teacher assessment\u00a0is put on to the year on year tracker. The assessment\u00a0leader and the core subject leaders analyse the data, focusing on gender, ethnicity and individual levels. This helps to inform the school leaders of areas for future development and increased challenge. It also informs the school\u2019s intervention strategy, which is responsive to the assessment tracking system.<\/p><p>Science assessments are carried out at the end of each unit of work through observation of investigative skills and knowledge testing.<\/p><p>A foundation subject assessment grid will be formally introduced to be completed half termly, recording levels above or below the national expectations for all pupils. This level is judged through teacher assessment of the pupil\u2019s knowledge and skills. Each child has an art portfolio that moves with them through the school and can be very useful for transition to secondary school.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"content-wrapper cloneable-container page-section\"><div class=\"col-1 one-column-container cloneable\"><div class=\"editable-container box\"><p class=\"draggable\"><strong><span class=\"editable text header edited\">Intervention Programmes<\/span><\/strong><\/p><div class=\"editable html edited\" data-placeholder=\"md5:64a0eeb41165f47b5f32689e5ed21a06\"><p>Intervention programmes are frequently put in place to support or extend learning for children with particular aptitude or experiencing difficulty in making progress towards their targets.\u00a0 The assessment data for children attending these groups is recorded as an entry level. This will include Booster Classes and setting arrangements.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"col-1 one-column-container cloneable\"><div class=\"editable-container box\"><p class=\"draggable\"><strong><span class=\"editable text header edited\">Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) for Year 2 and 6<\/span><\/strong><\/p><div class=\"editable html edited\" data-placeholder=\"md5:64a0eeb41165f47b5f32689e5ed21a06\"><p>Children in year\u00a0six take part in the KS2 SATs for reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and maths during a specific week in May. These tests are marked externally and the results reported to the school and LA.\u00a0<\/p><p>Children in year two take part in the KS1 SATs for reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and maths in May. These tests are marked internally and the results reported to the LA.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"col-1 one-column-container cloneable\"><div class=\"editable-container box\"><p class=\"draggable\"><strong><span class=\"editable text header edited\">Reporting and Communication with parents\/carers<\/span><\/strong><\/p><div class=\"editable html edited\" data-placeholder=\"md5:64a0eeb41165f47b5f32689e5ed21a06\"><p>Reporting and partnership with parents is crucial to success for the child. Each parent\/carer will have three formal opportunities each year to meet their child\u2019s teacher to discuss their progress and attainment.<\/p><p><strong>Autumn<\/strong><\/p><p>This will be a ten minute evening interview in the first half of the Autumn Term, designed to allow the teacher and parent\/carer to share any concerns or anxieties they may have regarding their child\u2019s new class. Initial impressions will be shared and points to help the development of the child discussed.<\/p><p><strong>Spring<\/strong><\/p><p>This meeting will be conducted as an open, informal meeting where parents are able to meet the teacher and look through their child\u2019s books and work samples.<\/p><p><strong>Summer<\/strong><\/p><p>This evening meeting will be a review of the year and follows on from the publication of the child\u2019s report. This meeting will be used specifically for parents of children who have a specific concern or those that the teacher wants to see for a particular reason. This report will have full written sections on general attributes and successes, English, Mathematics, Science and computing. Attendance data and the other National Curriculum subjects will also be reported.
